Jen Rosang MA, RCC
Registered Clinical Counsellor |
Let me introduce myself...
I have completed a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, a Master's Degree in Counselling Psychology, and an intensive internship comprising over 450 hours of counselling, supervision, and case management. In addition to a strong academic background; my life experiences, compassion, empathy, and unconditional acceptance are essential strengths I bring into my work with clients. I use an integrated and evidenced-based approach to wellness, combining theories such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and mindfulness to create a customized approach for each client. The counselling process is collaborative as we work together to develop a wellness plan that is most effective for you. In my free time, I like to be outdoors as much as possible - enjoying all that Vancouver Island has to offer. I enjoy running, yoga, hiking, reading, chocolate, trying new restaurants, and spending time with my husband, my two adult children, friends, and my dog Moose. |
Like most people, I experience challenges, anxiety, and times of feeling unsure about life. Yet, I'm confident that building a meaningful life is not about avoiding the messy parts, but rather leaning in to the lessons we learn from both our positive and negative experiences.
I feel truly honored to work with each person; supporting, listening, and helping them find the path forward. Please reach out with any other questions you have about me, my approaches, or what you can expect from counselling. Availability I have a part-time practice and am available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays typically from 9am - 4pm, depending on the day. |
My Approaches
There are many psychological modalities and theories which have been shown to improve mental health and wellness. Using evidence-based approaches ensures that you receive ethical and effective care. While I draw from many sources, the approaches listed below comprise the majority of my work with clients. Feel free to research these methods and ask lots of questions!
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)Cognitive Behavioral Therapy explores the connections between your thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, behaviours and environment. Understanding what triggers specific thoughts, emotions and behaviours offers insight into your core beliefs. Certain ways of thinking may be triggering emotional reactions. Once this is understood, reworking core beliefs and shifting your unhelpful thinking patterns can provide significant changes to your life and allow you to reframe your experiences and improve your overall perspective. Working with a counsellor to actively identify your patterns increases self-awareness and gives you the tools to create healthier, more adaptive ways of thinking and relating to your circumstances.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)Acceptance and commitment therapy is a type of psychotherapy that emphasizes acceptance to deal with negative thoughts, feelings, symptoms, or circumstances. ACT therapy encourages increased commitment to healthy, constructive activities that uphold your values or goals. An important goal in this approach is creating a rich, meaningful life through the willingness to experience the full range of human emotions without judgment. ACT encourages mindfulness, valued living, and behaviour activation to take an active approach to managing the ups and down of life, while retaining a strong connection to what's really important to you.
